In fact the bars are not transparent, but their borders are always rendered on top of the filling which is why they look like that. There is no way to change this.

See attached screenshot - the x-values overlap on the first two bar series, and the bars are transparent. This appears to be by default with no ability to change it. Is this correct? Thanks Kevin
